In Search of POS Free Software (Point of Sale)

Free POS Sofware - Does it exist?

There are only two general-purpose free POS software applications that I've been able to find.

PetraLite Point of Sale

Cash Register

PetraLite advertises itself as a freeware version of PetraSell with some limited functionality. It has a terrific feature list, and at first appears to be very promising.

Unfortunately, POS in this instance stands for something else. The interface is poor, installation is a headache, and once installed, crashes regularly.

Cash Register is actually a DOS program, but works fine in Windows. It's far from full-featured, but at least it works. You can print receipts on either a receipt printer or on any standard Windows printer. It can even control a cash drawer. (Cash drawers and receipt printers are often bundled as one unit.)

If you have basic needs and just have to have POS free software, Cash Register is the way to go.
